What do you get when you cross a mountain, fabulous wine and a girl on skis? Trouble, of course.

I’m skiing in Alta Badia for work this weekend, and I honestly couldn’t be happier to be here. I love that adrenaline rush – the feeling of your muscles just about to cave in, the rising calamity when you’re turning on steep slopes, the views when you’re levitating though the air on the lifts through the mountains. Yes please, on a platter. Any day of the week.

That being said, skiing is not an easy sport. Especially if you’re a novice. So it’s not every day when someone who is very good indeed takes the time to guide a stranger through the tougher slopes, skis backwards for the whole thing to help you out and just says ‘look at me’ so that you won’t get scared about the intimidating drops you’re gliding down. And at the end of all that, tells you how lucky they are to have spent the day with you – well. How truly lovely.

And they say chivalry is dead! Human kindness never fails to amaze me, even at the top of a mountain in the midst of a snowstorm.
